We left England on Sunday of the DFDS ferry from Dover to Dunkirk. On arrival, we had this notion that it would be more pleasant to set the GPS to avoid toll roads and motorways. We figured the smaller roads would be more interesting and scenic. We were soon to learn better.
i’ve never encountered so many roundabouts, one after the other, after the other! They were every kilometer and often more frequent than that. We were constantly having to negotiate them, in addition to the frequent changes in speed limits as we passed through towns and villages. It took all of the pleasure out of the drive So it is back to motorways when we need to get from one campsite to the next.
Our first campsite was near the town of Saint Amand les Eaux, a driving distance of 204 miles for the day. Just there for an overnight stay before kicking on to Luxembourg on Monday.
The photo shows our first campsite of the trip.
