With four weeks to go to my departure, I’m closely watching the developing situation in Ukraine. We are supposed to pass through Ukraine twice, on the way to and from Russia.
Since the new unity government was formed, the unrest in Kiev seems to have quietened but now attention is focussed on the east of the country and Crimea specifically. The fluid situation seems to change daily, so it is anyone’s guess how things might look next week or next month. At the moment, travel through the majority of Ukraine doesn’t seem to be impacted but the UK FCO is warning against travel to Crimea – https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/ukraine
We are still hopeful that we’ll be able to travel through Ukraine but, if the situation becomes dangerous, we have the option of changing the route and travelling through Lithuania and Latvia to enter Russia.
Not looking good in this mornings news Craig.
Much will depend on whether the occupation remains localised in Crimea or whether Russian troops move out into other parts of eastern Ukraine.
