I initially planned to stay in Saliste for two nights. So far, that has been extended to five nights (and it could be longer). My stay in Saliste has been at Pensione Camping Salisteanca and I have found it to be a very good base for my sightseeing in the area. It is about 20km west of Sibiu and also within easy driving range for the many places of interest in Transylvania, like Sibiu, Hunedoara or even the Transalpina and Transfagarasan Highways.
The village of Saliste has several small shops where groceries and supplies can be purchased. There are at least two ATMs (bankomats) and a couple of cafe/restaurants, so you don’t have to walk far to pick up a few necessities.
I have been impressed with Camping Salisteanca. The site has 15 pitches for either campers, caravans or tents so there is a feeling of being a guest rather than just a number, as is often the case at larger campsites. The owners, Iulian and his family, have been very helpful and friendly during my stay. The smaller size also makes it easier to interact with the other campers, making it a friendly location. For example, the Romanian campers next to me shared shots of their schnapps with me last night and I’ve been playing table tennis at night with the campers from the Netherlands.
The sanitary block is always clean and tidy, as is the rest of the facility. There is free wifi available. And there is a fridge that is stocked with beer, soft drinks and water, for purchase by the guests so you won’t go thirsty 🙂
I would definitely recommend Salisteanca to anyone looking for a campsite in the Sibiu region of Transylvania. The campsite’s website is www.salisteanca.com
