Whilst still not feeling very well this afternoon, I did manage to spend an hour or so walking around the run-down Ermita neighbourhood where my hotel is located. Hopefully these photos will give an idea of what the neighbourhood is like.
The streets are always full of Jeepneys durinb the day – local transportation buses made from converted WWII Willy’s Jeeps. Each vehicle is decorated differently.
Just across the street from LA Cafe, in broad daylight, I was approached by a dirty, dishevelled, toothless old lady who told me that if I was looking for a girl, she had a young girl I could have! Elsewhere on my walkabout, I was offered phones for sale and even Cialis (almost certainly fake) – in addition to frequent begging by adults and children.
I’m hoping that I’ll be feeling much better by tomorrow, as the antibiotics take effect, so that I can wander a bit farther from my hotel and see more of the city.
